Translation of madre de día

Hola,

I was wondering what the English term is for "madre de día".  I have searched online and didn't find anything that would fit well.

I believe it would be "day care worker"?

Thank you and I hope you and yours and the team and their families are all doing well in these difficult times.

Hola Nicole,

I'd say the English equivalent would be 'Child Minder'.

Que tengas un buen día

Hola Nicole,

Yes, as Clara said "madre de día" refers to a "childminder". So that you know, in Spain, this profession is quite new and it is given different names in Spain depending on the area. It is not exactly what we know as nanny or babysitter. This is people who look after other people's children in their own home (the childminder's home). It is quite new in Spain because the traditional thing to do in Spain has always been taking the kids to a nursery or if you are quite well off, having a nanny at your house. And of course, lots of grandparents look after their grandchildren during the day.

Saludos,

Inma
