Plurals of 'hay'

Why do you not use the plural form of 'hay' when the subject 'muchas cometas' is plural?

Hola Philip

In Spanish this works differently to the English "there is- there are". We have one single form which is used for both singular and plural.

Hay una casa. (There is a house.)

Hay muchas casas. (There are lots of houses.)

Un saludo

Inma
